For painters
Painters: are customers finding you when they ask AI?
Quotes get compared three at a time. You want to be one of the three that got asked.

“Who is a good house painter near me?”
“What does it cost to paint a house exterior?”
“Who paints roofs in my area?”
Jobs we write your pages around: interior painting, exterior repaints, roof painting, rendering, wallpaper removal and commercial painting.

Painting is licensed in NSW over $5,000, which catches most real jobs
Painting is explicitly listed as a category of residential building work in NSW, and a contractor licence is required for painting work valued above $5,000 in labour and materials including GST. That threshold is low enough that most full house repaints sit above it and most single rooms sit below, so the licence question applies to the bulk of the work rather than being a technicality. Customers comparing three quotes rarely think to check, which makes stating your licence and inviting them to verify it a differentiator available to any licensed painter for the cost of one sentence.

This is general information about licensing as it stood on the checked date, not legal advice, and the issuing body is the authority on your obligations.
You are being compared, in writing, against two others
Painting is the most comparison-shopped trade on this list. Three quotes, all within a plausible range of each other, and the decision made on everything except the number: how many coats, what preparation is included, whose paint, how long the site is occupied, who covers the furniture. Almost nobody publishes that detail before quoting, so the customer arrives at three conversations with no basis for comparison and picks on feel. Publishing exactly what your quote includes, and what it deliberately does not, wins jobs before the quote is requested.
What AI assistants currently get wrong about painters
Assistants asked what painting costs produce per-square-metre figures with no mention of preparation, which is where the real variation lives. A painter who publishes the actual cost drivers, surface condition, access, number of coats, lead paint on older homes, is correcting a wrong answer rather than adding noise, and corrections get quoted.
What reviews actually measure in this trade
Painting reviews are dominated by conduct inside someone home for a week: tidiness, punctuality, whether the radio was too loud. The work itself gets one word. Treat the conduct comments as the real product feedback, because that is what the next customer reads.
